I'm incredibly excited to share TWO brand new videos from the Canmore, Alberta area. Earlier this year, Jeff Bartlett and I teamed up with Travel Alberta to capture our adventure of chasing the Northern lights! In addition to shooting the night sky timeapse, Jeff and I worked together on creating a behind the scenes type adventure video that shows a bit of our journey out under the stars.

From the Milky Way glowing over frozen lakes, fog completely engulfing the town of Camore, to incredible aurora pillars, this timelapse has some of my favorite sequences I've ever shot. We faced some incredibly cold temperatures (-20's!) along with some intense winds, but being out under the stars in Canmore was an amazing experience.

This was my first time exploring this area of Alberta and I couldn't myself from wishing I had checked it out sooner.

This was easily one of the most exciting and challenging projects I've ever worked on. We headed to the Big Island for just 3 nights with the goal of trying to capture the stars above the lava entering the ocean. With such a short window to capture what we traveled for it was pretty critical that we didn't miss a single opportunity.

I'm very excited to share my newest timelapse, Wonder Endlessly! The timelapse focuses on some of my favorites places that I've found in Southern California under the night sky. It includes locations anywhere from giant sea caves to dry lake beds miles in to the desert.

The title, Wonder Endlessly, is a reflection of the desire to always seek new adventures. There are few things that can match the overwhelming sense of wonder felt when you're looking up at a sky full of stars. Keeping that strong sense of wonder is what makes me want to head in to the middle of nowhere in the dark, to climb across wet rocks and dodge waves to capture something new. That feeling is something that I hoped to capture with this timelapse.

After life took me to the West Coast last year, I couldn’t help but to explore and shoot as many new locations. You can plan things out months in advance, but in the end if the weather doesn't cooperate, you'll be making another trip back. A few of the shots that made the video took 3 or 4 attempts for everything to line up right. It can be frustrating at times, but that's all part of the adventure. It’s impossible to match that excitement felt when everything finally comes together.

I've certainly lost track of how many hours I spent driving, hiking, or hanging out near my camera all night, but I can say without a doubt, every second was completely worth it.

Regardless of the day, there's a good chance the world may feel more than just a little hectic. I promise that with the right bit of wonder, there's something beautiful not far from you just waiting to be found.

I'm very excited to share my new timelapse, Chasing Starlight. I spent a week in Alberta and it was an absolutely incredible experience that I'm thrilled to be able to share. There's a certain feeling that you get from standing under a truly dark sky for the first time. Although it's hard describe the exact feeling of awe that's felt, it's an experience that doesn't leave you. In fact, it's something that can change you. It can make you forget about sleeping when the sun has set and instead readies you for an adventure.This timelapse is about capturing the adventure of chasing star filled skies and the feeling you get from experiencing it. I hope it inspires people to find their own adventure chasing the stars.

Chasing Starlight was shot using a Nikon D800E & a Nikon D810 equipped with Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 lenses.

12/18/2013 - My newest timelapse comes from the beautiful Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. In stark contrast to my first timelapse, this was created in just two nights times. I spent the days scouting for locations and then spent every minute of the night out shooting. 

During the day, I took a bit of time to check out the awesome events planned for the festival, which included presentations from Discovery Channel's Jay Ingram, astronomer David Levy, science journalist Peter Mcmahon, and the great Northern lights photographer Yuichi Takasaka. In addition to the presentations, there were also sky gazing events and a beautiful night orientated art showing. Truly a unique and exciting experience.

After checking out as much of the festival as I could, I scouted locations during the day and then made my way out between 5-6pm to get to the first spot before it was dark. I stayed out shooting and moving from spot to spot each night until just before sunrise. The weather didn't cooperate for my third night, but In the end, I took over 2,000 photos at locations such as Lake Annette, Athabasca Glacier, Pyramid Lake, and many others.

Out of all the places I've traveled in search for dark skies, Jasper definitely offered some of the best views I've ever seen. The sky in the Columbia Icefield area was unlike any I had witnessed before. Thanks to Yuichi and Peter for taking me there! Although my visit was brief, I really felt a connection to the park and the festival. It was great to be around so many people that were excited about astronomy and preserving the night sky. The festival in 2014 already has Chris Hadfield lined up as a guest, so they're definitely moving forward full force and they've definitely got me excited to go back!

9/11/2013 - After 10 months, more than 40 hours of shooting, and over 5,000 photos taken, I'm proud to present my first timelapse video, Home At The Shore. Please hit play and take a journey to some of New Jersey's most beautiful beaches and shoreline locations and watch as the stars travel across the sky. I hope everyone enjoys watching and maybe even decides on setting aside a night just for stargazing. Trust me, the world can seem a lot calmer when you're staring up at the stars and listening to the waves crash on the beach.

On a personal level, the release of this video is very exciting for me. I've spent more time on this project than any in the past. I've learned new techniques, new software, and then went back and did it all over when I learned that I was doing it wrong. Each step along the way to finishing this was more exciting than the one before it. I want to thank all of my friends, family, and my girlfriend for all of the continued support.

A special thank you to all of those who have worked so hard to restore the homes of those lost during Sandy. Thank you to every volunteer that has spent time bringing the beauty back to our boardwalks and our beaches. The last year has been filled with heartbreak and devastation with much work still being done.

It may not ever be the same as it once was, but it will always be beautiful and it will always be home.
